New Testament: Yeshua tells His disciples to rejoice because their "names are written in heaven" (Luke 10:20), and Paul mentions fellow workers "whose names are in the Book of Life" (Philippians 4:3).
1. The Lamb's Book of Life
What it is: God's eternal heavenly register recording the names of those who are saved (Revelation 20:12–15).
Key Passages:
Revelation 13:8 & 17:8: Believers are written in the book of the "Lamb slain from the foundation of the world."
Revelation 20:12–15 & 21:27: Only those whose names are in this book enter the Holy City and avoid eternal judgment.
Revelation 3:5: Jesus promises never to blot out the name of the one who overcomes.
Broader Context: Found throughout Scripture, from Moses (Exodus 32) and Daniel (Daniel 12) in the Old Testament, to Jesus (Luke 10) and Paul (Philippians 4) in the New Testament.
2. The Holy Spirit: Seal and Guarantee
When a person believes, God gives them the Holy Spirit as an inner marker and promise of eternal security.
As a Seal (Ownership & Security):
Passages: Ephesians 1:13, 4:30; 2 Corinthians 1:22.
Meaning: Marks believers as God's authentic property, protects them from ultimate loss, and signifies an irreversible, completed transaction of salvation. As a Guarantee / Down Payment ($arrab\bar{o}n$):
Passages: 2 Corinthians 1:22, 5:5; Ephesians 1:14.
Meaning: Acts like an engagement ring or first installment, giving believers a foretaste of heaven and serving as God's unbreakable promise to complete their salvation.
3. Evidence of the Spirit's Presence
I. The Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23): The primary, universal evidence of inner transformation. It is singular ("fruit") because it represents a unified character: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
II. Experiential & Relational Evidence: Conviction of sin, spiritual rebirth, assurance of salvation, boldness in witness, guidance, answered prayer, and a growing desire to obey God.
III. Spiritual Gifts: Empowerments distributed by the Spirit (wisdom, healing, teaching, leadership, etc.) to build up the church (1 Corinthians 12).
Jesus declared this the Greatest Commandment (Matthew 22:37–40):4. Love for God and Others
Love God: With all your heart, soul, mind, and strength—expressed through obedience, worship, and prioritizing Him.
Love Your Neighbor: Treating others with the same care and empathy you desire for yourself, which acts as the ultimate litmus test of genuine faith (1 John 4:20).
5. Spiritual Growth (Sanctification)
What it is: The lifelong process of becoming more like Jesus Christ, deepening your relationship with God, and bearing the fruit of the Spirit.
How it Happens: A partnership between God's grace and human effort, fueled by:
Intake of God's Word (Bible study and meditation)
Prayer and dependence on God
Christian fellowship and church involvement
Spiritual disciplines and faithful obedience
Refining trials and suffering (Romans 5:3–5)
